Adjunct Lecturer in Building Environmental Systems

The USC School of Architecture invites applicants for adjunct faculty positions in building environmental systems and performance-based design. Candidates will be able to teach graduate-level building science courses focused on passive and active/mechanical environmental control strategies for buildings in context with contemporary standards for health and indoor environmental quality and imperatives (e.g. climate justice and climate resilience).

USC reserves the “Adjunct” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC, who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career elsewhere. Adjunct faculty typically teach only one course per year but, in exceptional cases, may teach one course per semester, if approved by the dean.

Qualifications: A Master of Building Science degree or equivalent degree is required. Preference is given to candidates with a proven track record of research and or related professional work, prior teaching experience at recognized schools of architecture, and experience with projects addressing the critical need for resource-efficient housing and/or serving the needs of communities most vulnerable to impacts of climate change.

Applicants will be asked to submit a CV, cover letter, 3-5 references with contact information, and selected work samples (portfolio/publications; 10 MB max).

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are integral to our university and school’s commitment to excellence in research, engagement, and education. We encourage applications from candidates who identify with groups that are historically underrepresented in the academy to apply. We encourage all applicants to address in their cover letter their experience or commitment to engaging with diversity through activities such as fostering an inclusive environment, working with students from diverse backgrounds, incorporating diverse perspectives and bringing issues of inequity and justice into the classroom.

Apply through the USC Careers website. Position may be found by searching for REQ20102472.
